What is an Affirmation?

During the last few years, I kept hearing about affirmations.  Likely because I am getting more involved in Reiki, Chakras and meditation….  I wasn’t quite sure what people were talking about.  Sometimes I would hear “Set an intention”   I had to look it up because it was new to me in my little world..which was work, work and work and very little play.

Dictionary definition for “Affirmation” is

  1. The Action or process of affirming something or being affirmed. e.g. he nodded in affirmation (similar words include assertion, declaration, statement, proclamation, pronouncement, attestation, assurance, oath, vow, swearing, guarantee, promise etc etc…too many to type
  2. “emotional support or encouragement; e.g. “the lack of one or both parents’ affirmation leaves some children emotionally crippled”

I read somewhere that encouragement is not really affirmation.  The article said affirmation is patting someone on the back for something they’ve done.  Encouragement is patting someone on the back for something they have not done yet, but can do.  Yes you may have to read that over again.

Encouragement is definitely needed but is not exactly affirmation.  There are more people who need more encouragement than affirmation…don’t quit, keep going, you can do it…  Encouraging someone can make someone feel better or smile!  Hope this helps you understand the definition of AFFIRMATION better.

The article gave several examples of which I copied two below:

AFFIRMATION is what a person receives when they are successful in business.  ENCOURAGEMENT is what a person receives from friends and family that they can succeed in the business venture they are about to embark on.

AFFIRMATION is receiving any kind of recognition for something you have done well.  ENCOURAGEMENT is that pat on the back people give you to let you know they believe in you… they’re behind you… they support you… they’re there for you… no matter what.

Affirmations are short statements of intention that can be used to balanced Chakras.  You can create personalized affirmations.   The more you repeat the statement, the more you draw similar energies to you while simultaneously triggering your subconscious to accept what you are saying as true or as a state that is already in existance.

Things you can do with affirmation.

  1. Repeat the statement throughout the day
  2. Write the affirmation on a piece of paper and put it somewhere you always see it and repeat it

This is said to align your conscious and subconscious and trigger the body’s natural healing process.

Ok, it may sounds crazy but I am in.   Honestly, if it can’t hurt, why not?  I believe repeating affirmations helps set your mood and there is always the law of attraction!!

Law of Attraction says you magnetically attract things vibrating on the same frequency.  If you work to maintain a high frequency (though positivity, love, compassion, and productivity) then you inevitably end up with more good things in your life.   I like it!!

Each Chakra is associated with an affirmation…

I got this information from the following reference: Chakras by Kristine Marie Corr

Chakra Phrase Sample Affirmation (s)
Root-Base of one’s spine “I do” or “I am” “I am well-grounded and balanced”

“I do have enough to meet my needs”

Sacral-Above the belly button “I want” or “I feel” “I want to experience joy in my life”

“I want to have good relationships and abundance of money”

Heart-heart region “I love” “I love myself, my family and my life”

“I love the blessings I receive”

Throat-throat region “I express” or “I speak” “I speak honestly and with ease”
Third Eye-middle of forehead “I think” or “I know” “I know without knowing”

“I think clearly”

Crown-top of head “I understand” or “I am” “I understand my life’s purpose”

“I am awakened”

In any event, this will take practice…maybe start small with only 1 affirmation.  I say be specific and repeat…it is almost like brainwashing.  LOL

I think one of my affirmations will be “I want to lose 10 lbs by May 26th, 2020”  If it happens, I will let you know.  I  identify with being slender which makes we “translender”

In all seriousness, I like the idea of affirmations now that I understand it.
